How it works

From the brief to work you can explain.

Start wherever you are. Move between reading, planning and writing at your own pace.

01

Give the task a clear shape

Organise assignments under your studies. Keep the brief and requirements with an editable plan, so your next step stays in view.

02

Develop the work together

Read, capture sources and make notes beside your documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Move your ideas into the work when you are ready.

03

Review and export

Check your reasoning, references and files. Export for your institution’s own submission service, with your working history available to revisit.

For students

Keep the thinking
with the writing.

One place for the files, sources and small decisions that make an assignment.

  • More than a document editor

Work on documents, spreadsheets and presentations within the same assignment, with notes, sources and your plan alongside them.

  • References that stay connected

Read webpages and imported source files. Keep original files, captured passages and citation details together, with references you can check and correct.

  • Keep your place — and earlier versions

Automatic saving, recovery copies and revision history help you pick up where you left off and revisit earlier decisions.

  • Keep working offline

If you choose Keep me signed in, Marvin opens work saved on your Windows computer without internet until your sign-in expires. See what is saved on your device and what still needs to sync when you are back online.

How green spaces shape city life

Working draft

A place to pause

A park can be more than a space between buildings. It gives people somewhere to stop, meet and spend time outdoors.

I want to explore how the way a space is designed affects who feels welcome there.

Your ideas, in your own words.

Illustrative content, showing how writing and notes sit together.

A companion for your thinking

A useful question.
Your own answer.

Marvin offers guiding questions rather than finished answers. Help follows the AI rules recorded for your assignment, so you can work through a question without handing over the thinking.

Stuck on a passage? Select it and ask Marvin to explain it more simply or in another language, where your assignment allows. Explanations stay beside your work and are never added to it automatically.

Marvin might ask“Which of your sources gives you the strongest reason to think that?”

Prefer to speak? Dictate on your device, then review the recognised words. Local spelling and grammar checks help you make individual corrections as you work.

Optional on-device phrase suggestions are a separate feature: you choose whether to enable them, your assignment must permit generated writing, and accepted suggestions are recorded as AI contributions. Manual work remains available without AI help.

What we stand for

Guided by principles that matter to education.

Developed by Murphee Limited for students and educators seeking thoughtful, practical software.

Academic integrity

We value original effort. Your research, drafting steps and revisions stay together, so you can show and explain how your work developed. The record gives context; it does not prove authorship.

Transparency

See when Marvin used AI, what it did and which assignment rule allowed it. Sources stay linked to your work, and your revision history shows how each draft was saved.

Student ownership

Your thoughts, notes and writing are yours to develop. Marvin offers questions and optional suggestions; you decide what goes into your work, and accepted suggestions are recorded as AI help.

Privacy

Dictation, spelling and optional suggestions run on your device, with no cloud fallback and no training on your work. When outside AI help is allowed, Marvin removes identifying details on your device first.

For educators

A better starting point for feedback.

Explore the reasoning behind a finished piece. A student can bring sources, drafts and revisions to a conversation about what changed, why it changed and what to try next.

A few useful answers

Before you begin.

Who is Marvin for?

Marvin is a workspace for students, with university study at its heart. Add your studies and assignments, gather sources and develop your own writing.

What kind of AI help does Marvin offer?

Marvin asks guiding questions where your assignment rules allow. Optional phrase suggestions run on your device and require separate permission for generated writing. You review what you accept, and accepted suggestions are recorded as AI contributions. Permission for guiding questions does not automatically allow generated text.

Can I bring in writing I started elsewhere?

Yes. Text copied from outside Marvin is labelled External text. This can include your own writing; the label describes where the text entered the workspace, not who wrote it.

Does the record prove my work is original?

No. It provides context about recorded work and how it developed. It does not certify authorship, guarantee an assessment outcome or replace your institution’s judgement.

Do I have to complete an independent check?

No. Personal review questions and independent checks are optional. You can continue editing and export your work without completing them. Submit through your institution’s own service.

Can my lecturer see my private workspace?

No lecturer dashboard currently gives access to student accounts. You decide what files or records to share through an agreed university channel. An institutional review service would need separately agreed access and privacy arrangements.

Does Marvin monitor everything on my computer?

No. Optional Windows program review keeps a local record of relevant running programs, with recognised AI tools and uncertain programs flagged for review. It does not inspect their documents or browsing history, send the inventory to a lecturer, or establish that AI was used. Private Student Portal sessions also stay separate from the coursework activity record.

Where can I use Marvin?

Marvin is available now for Windows. macOS, iOS and Android versions for computers and tablets are being prepared. Visit Downloads for the packages currently available. First sign-in and syncing need a connection. See devices and offline use for details.

University practice

Two ways to try it.

Fictional scenarios, not student results or institutional endorsements.

History: compare two interpretations

Add the essay brief, plan a comparison, capture a passage and check the reference. Write your own interpretation, then choose one revision to discuss with your tutor.

A book or paper note outside Marvin may also inform your thinking.

Science: discuss a laboratory result

Record a non-sensitive practice observation, distinguish data from interpretation and keep the method source beside your notes.

Check units, equations and your course template in a trial export before assessed use.

  1. Brief and requirements
  2. Your draft and sources
  3. Optional review
  4. Assessment export
  5. Submit through your university

Use these examples with practice material. AI help follows assignment permissions; optional generated suggestions have their own permission and contribution record.
