Your workspace. Your choice of device.

Bring research, planning, writing, spreadsheets and presentations together with Marvin for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. This page explains the workspace, sharing, privacy and support. Visit Downloads for available packages; macOS, iOS and Android downloads are being prepared.

Using Marvin

Marvin brings research, notes and sources together with documents, spreadsheets and presentations. You can plan, develop and review work in any order, with saved versions and recovery copies to revisit. Review questions and independent checks are optional. Marvin does not grade work or certify authorship.

Your assignment’s AI instructions govern assistance. Check Assignment and Organisation in the AI policy panel. Published matching rules take precedence; prohibited or unclear permission keeps affected help unavailable. A student confirmation is not university approval. Ask the course team when instructions are unclear.

The mentor offers guiding questions, not finished assignment answers. Optional on-device phrase completion requires separate permission for generated writing, even when mentoring is allowed. Accepted suggestions are recorded as AI contributions. Local dictation lets students speak and review their words; local spelling and grammar checking offers individual corrections rather than rewriting an assignment.

For educators: begin with a teaching need

A student’s sources, drafts and revisions can give a feedback conversation more context. Discuss why an argument changed, whether a source supports a claim and how the student responded to feedback. Records support that conversation; they do not prove independent authorship, measure learning or justify a misconduct finding on their own.

Educator dashboards, institutional account access and learning-platform integrations are not yet available. Talk to us about your teaching and feedback needs. Students choose what to share through their institution’s existing channels. Selecting an institution in a student profile does not grant it access.

Talk to us about teaching with the Marvin team. Please describe the teaching workflow without attaching student work.

Your work and privacy

Who operates Marvin

Marvin is a service operated by Murphee Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 15920043.

Registered office: 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

Hosting arrangements

The current service is a staging environment. Production provider and region selection remain open; AWS Ireland and other European hosting options are under review. The chosen provider, region and backup locations must be confirmed before production launch.

Support email uses Microsoft 365. Email and any enabled AI providers have separate data handling arrangements. A proposed application-server location does not establish where every service or copy of data is hosted.

What the product records

Account and study details, assignments and instructions, saved drafts and versions, attached files, captured sources and notes, activity, AI conversations and checks, and recorded submission or feedback can be stored with your account. Downloaded work and unfinished entries may also be retained on your device for saving and recovery. A server backup does not include edits that have never synced.

Research captures retain a passage and its source and add a reference to the selected document. The passage stays in Notes until you insert it. Student Portal is a separate private browser; it does not provide Research capture. External text records an entry from outside Marvin whose earlier editing history is missing. It may be your own writing.

AI and other recipients

Dictation and optional phrase completion run on the student’s device, without a cloud inference fallback. Raw microphone audio is not retained by Marvin. Dictation records keep recognised wording and review history; accepted phrase suggestions are recorded as AI contributions. Initial model downloads need a connection, and completion currently needs online assignment-permission checks even though generation happens locally.

When external mentor assistance is enabled and permitted, Marvin removes identifying details locally and sends a sanitised study question. The current external request excludes coursework files, draft history and institution-specific policy text. You can see the question shared with the service in the conversation. This filtering is conservative and does not guarantee that every possible identifying phrase will be detected.

Alongside application hosting and Microsoft 365 support email, the final provider list, backup locations, international transfers, contracts, purposes and lawful bases, access responsibilities and provider retention settings still need to be confirmed and published. Do not put sensitive or restricted university material into the service before that review.

Optional running-program review

On Windows, students can enable a local view of relevant running programs. Recognised AI tools appear under AI; browsers and unclassified programs appear under Needs review. Recognised non-AI background helpers are excluded. Filename hints can be incomplete or ambiguous: a label does not prove active AI use or a policy breach. The view does not inspect program documents, window titles or browser history, and its inventory is not uploaded to an account service, an AI model or a lecturer. It does not block programs.

Who can see work

A normal account is a student account. Fictional demonstration lecturer views do not give real lecturers access to real student accounts. Students can export selected evidence and share it through an agreed university channel. Service operators may need controlled technical access for operations and support; named responsibilities and access arrangements are pending. This is not a promise that work is visible only to you.

Retention, backups and your rights

No service retention period or deletion timetable has been agreed. The documented backup process keeps encrypted copies on a separate host and currently has no automatic backup deletion. Deleting an account or removing a device copy does not recall exported files or establish deletion from existing backups. A retention schedule, backup expiry and restoration handling must be agreed before production launch.

Murphee Limited is the service operator. The named privacy contact, rights request procedure, complaint route and response arrangements are still being finalised. The final notice must identify these at collection. See the ICO information about privacy notices. This preparation page does not establish legal compliance.

Storage on this site

Sign-in uses session cookies. The application also uses device storage for preferences and recovery. A randomly chosen hero character uses no visitor identifier. A complete storage and cookie inventory, including any deployment additions, must be approved with the final notice.

Devices and offline use

Platforms and download availability
Route What to expect Before relying on it
Windows x64 Assignment documents, spreadsheets, presentations, research, source files, local writing tools and device saving with a sync queue. Sign-in, new assignments, external mentoring, completion permission checks, fresh web research and syncing need a connection. Rehearse saved work, restart without a network, reconnect and conflict recovery on your actual device.
Web browser Account and download pages, with browser workspace features that differ from the native app. Use the app for the full student workflow. Plan to stay online. Browser storage can be cleared; do not treat it as an offline backup. Rehearse your course tasks on the chosen browser.
macOS, iOS and Android Supported launch platforms for computers and tablets. Downloads are being prepared. Check Downloads for available packages and installation details.
Managed university computer Installation depends on university IT. Trusted publisher signing and an approved controlled installation route are unconfirmed. Ask IT before installing; do not bypass device security controls.

Before travel, sign in, download and open the work you need, check its sync state and keep a checked export. Keep the device copy if saving or syncing fails. Do not clear application data to fix a sync error. Cold-start offline and assistive-technology behaviour can vary by device; check your setup before relying on it.

Keyboard, enlarged-text and screen-reader rehearsal is required for core tasks. Windows UI Automation, native embedded editors, exported PDF reading order and the selected browser must be tested with participants; automated checks alone cannot establish accessibility.

Assessment files and lecturer conversations

In the Windows app, Word and PDF exports offer an assessment copy that omits the account name, application record details and branded footer. Enter a candidate ID only if your course asks for one. Check names in your own content, references, links and chosen filename: Marvin does not redact them. Only include your recorded acknowledgement after checking it against this version and the course instructions.

Export the selected file from the assignment workspace, or use Review to export the assignment files together. Note-based citation formats use an endnote section, not Word footnote objects. Check complex templates, equations, page layout and multilingual text in the saved file. If PDF reports unsupported characters, use Word and verify it in your usual editor. No accessible-PDF certification is claimed.

The draft word count counts space-separated words including headings and references written in the draft; generated references and data appendices are excluded. Your university’s counting rules may differ.

Selected evidence for a lecturer is a separate, identified file. Choose sections, inspect the preview and share only what is needed. Agree a teaching purpose, recipient, retention and university channel first. The lecturer can discuss one claim, source and revision, then return feedback with the assignment and version. Exported copies cannot be recalled through Marvin.

Verification of a signature embedded in exported coursework is proposed, not yet available. Signed app updates protect the update package; they do not certify a student’s authorship or make an exported assignment tamper-proof.

Missing activity, paper reading, assistive tools or text written elsewhere do not establish misconduct. A formatted reference does not prove accuracy or support for a claim. Neither an evidence receipt nor marking work as submitted proves the university received it. Submit through the institution’s own service and keep its receipt.

Support and your account

Contact support at support@immersognosis.com. This Microsoft 365 shared mailbox has staff access and reply permissions configured. Response hours, the support rota, privacy escalation and university escalation still need to be confirmed before production launch. No response-time commitment has been agreed.

Before leaving, export the work and evidence you choose to keep and check the files. Account → Security → This device manages local removal with unsynced-work safeguards. Account deletion is a separate confirmed action. Server and backup retention arrangements are described above; removing a device copy does not remove exported files or backups.
